Drug use is a major problem.  It is estimated that 16% of all high school students have smoked marijuana in the last 30 days.  Do you think this number is high?  Low?  Do you feel that marijuana should be legalized?  Please visit the guestbook to voice your opinion.  We are also going to ask the parents to participate to increase the scope and debate.

The table below separates the three major types of drugs and describe the short term effects on the body.  Drug use and abuse does not only cause short term effects on the body.  Continued use of illegal substances can hurt not only the user, but the people around them as well.  It is imperative we do our part to help someone struggling with addiction.

Drug Category Effects on the Body Examples
Stimulants Increase activity on the central nervous system Amphetamines, Anabolic steroids, cocaine, crack, caffeine, ecstasy, and tobacco
Depressants Reduce activity on the central nervous system Alcohol, barbiturates, and heroin
Hallucinogens They alter perceptions of reality and may result in hallucinations LSD, cannabis, and magic mushrooms
